Introducing our Vets

Andrew Madeiros, DVM, the driving force behind Ettrick Animal Hospital, has been the sole owner of the clinic since 2000.
Having graduated from Ontario Veterinary College in 1987 with a Doctorate in Veterinary Medicine, Dr. Madeiros worked for 3 years as small animal veterinarian for a mixed practice in Ontario.
He returned to Bermuda in 1990 to work for Ettrick, doing small animal and equine work. He was very active with the Bermuda SPCA for 25 years and is past president of the Bermuda Veterinary Association.
In his spare time, Dr. Madeiros enjoys boating, gardening and travelling. He has a keen sense of humour and is popular with staff and clients alike. The animals are fond of him, too!

In 2002, Dr. Jiri Heinz graduated from the Veterinary Faculty of the University of Veterinary Pharmaceutical Sciences in Brno, Czech Republic with a Doctorate in Veterinary Medicine. Upon graduating, he gained experience by working in a small animal hospital in Prague for 5 years.
Dr. Jiri then moved to England where he did a clinical internship at Fitzpatrick Referrals, specializing in orthopedics, followed by a one and a half year stint at an Emergency and Critical Care clinic.
In March, 2018 he completed post gradual studies in small animal surgery at Veterinary Faculty of University of Liverpool,UK. He completed a synoptic exam and was awarded a post gradual certification in general small animal surgery CertAVP( GSAS).
Dr. Jiri joined the Ettrick team back in 2011. Although he practices general medicine and surgery, his passion is orthopedic surgery.
In his spare time, he loves playing tennis, swimming, surfing and boating. He has an appreciation for art and music.

Dr. Craig Horton obtained a Bachelor of Veterinary Medicine from the Royal Veterinary College - University of London in 2010.
He began his career working in a busy 24 hour small animal hospital in the London area. During this time, Craig performed routine surgeries and assisted with more complex surgical procedures. He managed hospitalised and critical care patients, including treatments and care plans and managing wounds, and worked up cases with an emphasis on diagnosing the underlying disease process.
In addition to this, Craig found time to act as a Clinical coach/mentor to a student veterinary nurse where he was responsible for demonstrating key skills and practices as set by RCVS guidelines.
At Ettrick we enjoy his sense of humour and his caring and gentle nature with animals and their humans. Craig is our resident expert on all kinds of trivia! He enjoys running and swimming and likes socialising and meeting new people.

Dr. Laura Tucker is a Bermudian and has spent her summers from an early age working in several of Bermuda’s practices. As a veterinary student, Laura reinforced her formal training by working through her vacations at Ettrick animal hospital in various positions including reception, kennels and nursing.
She was educated in UK and Bermuda before going to Grenada to study veterinary medicine at the US school of St. Georges University. Laura took the opportunity to travel and completed her degree in Perth, Australia at Murdoch University. She passed the North American Veterinary Licensing Exam in 2010. Following one of her pre grad courses in acupuncture, and subsequently treating a dog for severe back pain, she decided to study to become a Certified Veterinary Acupuncturist.
When not at work or studying Laura likes to spend time with her animals on long walks or teaching tricks. In her spare time she also likes to play field hockey and in the summer enjoys a leisurely boat trip and paddle boarding.

Dr. Miguel Lozano was born into a Cuban-Spanish family in Costa Rica and was raised in Spain. He graduated in 2008 from the Veterinary Faculty of Extremadura (UEX) in Spain, having studied for one year in Szent István University in Budapest, Hungary. He worked for 5 years in the south of Spain before moving to London where he practiced for 6 years.
He enjoys every single aspect of the veterinary profession, but Dr. Miguel's main passion is surgery. He obtained a certificate in surgery GPCert(SAS) by the European School of Veterinary Postgraduate Studies (ESVPS) in 2018.
He considers himself in love with his profession and has volunteered as a vet in both Tanzania and Cuba. He has a cat called “Cacha” now living with his parents back in Spain.
Outside of work, Dr. Miguel loves to travel (he tells us that he has been to 32 countries so far and is more than willing to increase that number)! He also enjoys dancing and water sports.
